Big-punching Brunson can take revenge on Jacare

Local fighter should start fast

Jacare v Brunson 2
BT Sport 3, 1am Saturday night

Prelims from 11pm

UFC Fight Night heads to Charlotte, North Carolina, for a fascinating middleweight rematch between Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Jacare Souza and big-punching American Derek Brunson, and while Jacare won the first fight by knockout in 2012, it could be a different story this time.

Even Jacare admits Brunson is much improved since their first meeting, and if the fighters stay on their feet he should have a big advantage.

Jacare is one of the best ground fighters in the world but recently he has had a habit of trying to match opponents standing, and it hasn't always worked out well.

In his last fight Robert Whitaker was able to stuff most of Jacare's takedown attempts and put some serious damage on him before winning by TKO in the second round.

Brunson has a good wrestling game and if he can keep the fight standing he has the power to end it early.

Interestingly, Brunson's last six UFC victories have all been by KO/TKO in the first round and it's 11-2 that he beats Jacare in the opening stanza. Fighting in front of his own fans the North Carolina man should be set for another fast start.

Recommendation
D Brunson to win in round one
1pt 11-2 general
