Mandy Minella put in some promising performances last season after coming back from becoming a mum, but it may pay to oppose the Luxemburger on her seasonal debut in the Thailand Open.

Minella, 33, faces China's Saisai Zheng, who lost her way a little last year after a promising 2017 campaign.

The early support has been for Zheng, 24, and that's not surprising if Minella is lacking a little match fitness.

However, rather than take the match odds of 4-7, it could pay to chance the favourite at 4-6 giving up a handicap start of 1.5 games.

Slovenia's Tamara Zidansek gave a good account of herself in the Australian Open – she defeated the useful Daria Gavrilova before succumbing to champion Naomi Osaka – and supporting the Slovenian against Timea Babos can be considered.

But Babos, a physically strong performer, has done some of her best work on outdoor coastal courts so it may pay to swerve the younger player on this occasion.

Recommendation
Saisai Zheng -1.5 games
1pt 4-6 Coral, Ladbrokes
