Sam Baird to qualify for the Betfred World Championship
2pts 12-1 Betfred
Fraser Patrick to beat Ken Doherty
2pts 5-2 bet365, Betfair, Power
Sam Baird hasn't fulfilled his potential but he has twice qualified for the Betfred World Championship and he looks overpriced to make it a hattrick.
The Blade gets his bid underway against youngster Ben Mertens and the Devon potter shouldn't have too many problems negotiating his way past the Belgian.
Mark Davis awaits the winner of that clash, and while the Hastings cueman is a classy operator, his best days are probably behind him.
Anthony McGill is the other big-hitter in the section but the Scot looks a woeful even-money favourite and there's 12-1 on offer about a player who is a stronger break-builder at his best.
Clearly, Baird is not the most consistent of cuemen but that's reflected in his price, which still looks way too big.
Ken Doherty lifted the Sheffield crown in 1997 but he could face a tough tussle against Fraser Patrick.
Doherty is a quality operator but clearly the 50-year-old isn't the force he once was.
Patrick looked in good nick when beating Sean Maddocks 6-1 in the previous round and the Scot is unlikely to be found wanting in the tactical department.
There's some 5-2 on offer about Patrick and that looks to underrate his chance by some margin.
