BBC Sports Personality of the Year betting: Raducanu expected to cap dream year
Shock US Open champion 1-20 to eclipse shortlisted rivals
The six-strong shortlist for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year has been announced and bookmakers rate tennis star Emma Raducanu 1-20 to win the award.
The teenager was a 400-1 chance to win the US Open in September, having come through qualifying, but she ended Britain's 44-year wait for a female Grand Slam champion by beating Canadian youngster Leylah Fernandez in the final.
Raducanu was immediately slashed to 1-12 for SPOTY after her victory at Flushing Meadows and that achievement is expected to help her eclipse the other five shortlisted stars at the ceremony in Salford on Sunday, December 19.
Diver Tom Daley, who won his first Olympic gold medal in Tokyo in his fourth appearance at the Games, is 12-1 second-favourite and 4-9 with Coral to win the BBC award without Raducanu.
Next in the outright betting at 33-1 is WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, who stopped Deontay Wilder in the 11th round of their memorable trilogy fight in October.
Adam Peaty, who became the first British swimmer to successfully defend an Olympic title in Tokyo, is 100-1 and cyclist Sarah Storey, who claimed her 17th Paralympic gold medal at this year's Games, is 150-1.
Also at 150-1 is Manchester City and England footballer Raheem Sterling, who played a starring role during England's run to the final of Euro 2020. Only five footballers have won the award, which was first presented in 1954.
Last year's winner Lewis Hamilton, who missed out on retaining his Formula One drivers championship in controversial circumstances on Sunday, failed to make the shortlist.
Ladbrokes make Hamilton's conqueror Max Verstappen 7-2 to be named BBC World Sports Star of the Year although Rachael Blackmore, the first female jockey to win the Grand National, is 2-7 favourite for the award.
