Boston Red Sox look a solid World Series bet

LA Dodgers may come up short

Boston Red Sox v LA Dodgers
Game One: BT Sport 1, 1.09am Wednesday

The World Series starts in the early hours of Wednesday morning when the Boston Red Sox take on the LA Dodgers and the favourites will be difficult to stop in the best-of-seven showdown.

The Red Sox have hardly put a foot wrong all season. They comfortably saw off a really strong challenge from a useful Yankees team in the AL East and won a highly impressive 108 regular-season games.

They then went head-to-head with the Bronx Bombers again, in the American League Division Series, and came out on top a second time, taking the series 3-1.

Beating the Houston Astros in the Championship Series, a ton-plus winning team themselves, was a massive achievement but the Red Sox brushed them aside 4-1.

The Dodgers got off to a diabolical start to the season - by mid-May they were eight games back in the National League West - although they had managed to catch up by the All-Star break.

They never had a commanding lead in the section, however, and required a playoff with the Colorado Rockies to determine who were the NL West champions, which the Dodgers won.

LA have the superior pitching - Clayton Kershaw has a postseason ERA of 2.37 - although they have the inferior offence in this series and the men from Massachusetts are worth siding with to win a fourth World Series this century.

The Red Sox's offence has been outstanding this season. They averaged 5.4 runs per game in the regular season and that has risen to six in what should be the harder run-scoring environment of the playoffs.

Jackie Bradley Jr and J.D Martinez have lead the way in the playoffs, both hitting two home runs and nine runs batted in and if Boston continue to score at such a prolific rate it should not matter if starting pitchers Chris Sale and David Price fail to dominate.
