Barca equipped to take a grip of Copa del Rey semi-final

Valencia head to Camp Nou having lost their last three

Luis Suarez can shine for Barcelona against Valencia

8.30pm Thursday

It's semi-final time in the Copa del Rey and predictably the market has a familiar look to it.

Runaway La Liga leaders Barcelona are just 4-11 to win a fourth Copa in a row as they prepare for a last-four date with Valencia over the week.

Barca were given a small scare by city rivals Espanyol in the quarters – losing the first leg 1-0 before turning the tie around at Camp Nou – but that has been a rare blip in an otherwise exemplary season so it’s hard to quibble with such skinny odds.

Only Real Madrid in August’s Super Cup (won 3-1) and Celta Vigo a month ago (drew 2-2) have managed to leave Catalonia with any change out of Ernesto Valverde’s troops and their formidable home record doesn’t look in too much trouble.

Valencia have enjoyed something of a revival this season and currently sit third in La Liga after a fine five months.

However, defeats in their last three outings in all competitions has seen their progress stall and a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Real Madrid must be a source of concern given they would have probably fancied their chances of beating the ailing European champions.

The Bats have played an exciting brand of attacking football this year which could see them trouble the hosts, but Barca have so much firepower in their ranks that they should still outscore the visitors and take a first-leg advantage.
