Back Wigan for crucial victory over Tigers

Top four beckons for Warriors

Super 8s: Wigan v Castleford
Kick-off 3.15pm Sunday

Castleford Tigers have had a home semi-final and the League Leaders' Shield in the bag for some time and victory at Wigan on Sunday will see them reach another milestone.

Should they oblige at the DW Stadium, the Tigers will have 50 points, 12 more than second-placed Leeds.

The Tigers have been tremendous all season but their Grand Final bid has been compromised in the past week as star playmaker Luke Gale needed an emergency operation to remove his appendix.

That blow prompted bookmakers to push the Tigers out to 13-8 for Grand Final glory with Gale potentially ruled out for the season.

Old Trafford is still three weeks away and the Tigers' immediate thoughts will be on their assignment against the Warriors.

Despite an inconsistent campaign blighted by injuries, champions Wigan still harbour hopes of retaining their title. Victory over Cas would see them move into the top four at the expense of rivals St Helens and with the visitors missing a further four first-teamers in addition to Gale, Wigan could take advantage.

Shaun Wane's men are charged with overturning an eight-point start on the handicap but a better bet could be backing the hosts to triumph in a close match. While Cas have injuries to contend with, they still have plenty of points in their ranks.

Warrington are 1-9 to see off Featherstone in Sunday's sole game in the Qualifiers.

Recommendation
Wigan to win by one to 12 points
1pt 2-1 general
