Back resurgent Nice to grind out tight victory

Nice's fortunes have improved since their Champions League defeat to Napoli

Two rounds of two-legged Champions League playoff ties contributed to a busy early-season schedule for Nice and after a wobbly start to the 2017-18 campaign they are beginning to move through the gears.

Lucien Favre’s men won only one of their first eight games in all competitions, missing out on the Champions League group stage after a 4-0 aggregate defeat to an excellent Napoli side.

That was followed by a shock 3-0 loss at Amiens in Ligue 1 but bookmakers expect Nice to continue their resurgence at home to Angers.

Favre’s side have won their last three matches, including an eye-catching 4-0 home win over champions Monaco.

They put five goals past Waregem on a Europa League trip to Belgium last week before grinding out a 1-0 win at Rennes thanks to Mario Balotelli’s 79th-minute winner.

Balotelli and strike partner Alassane Plea have shared seven goals in their last three outings and their quality up front is vital for Nice, especially as injury has restricted Wesley Sneijder to just two appearances since his move from Galatasaray.

Nice have been backed into evens for victory over an Angers side whose last five league games have all featured under 2.5 goals.

The visitors, missing suspended striker Enzo Crivelli for the trip to the Riviera, have drawn four of their first six Ligue 1 matches this term and are set up to frustrate their hosts.

Angers, 12th last season, were rarely beaten heavily and none of their 22 games against teams above them in the table produced more than three goals.

That stat suggests punters could squeeze a bit more value out of a Nice victory by backing the home side to win with under 3.5 goals in the match.
