Angelique Kerber to beat Kaia Kanepi

Andy Murray to beat Nikoloz Basilashvili

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to beat Anna Bondar

Aryna Sabalenka to beat Storm Sanders

Diego Schwartzman to beat Filip Krajinovic

There could be double British delight in the first round of the men's Australian Open with Dan Evans and Andy Murray both able to build on their Sydney International performances by beating David Goffin and Nikoloz Basilashvili respectively.

Diego Schwartzman, meanwhile, won two of his three matches at the ATP Cup and can account for Filip Krajinovic.

In the women's draw, Indian Wells Masters quarter-finalist Angelique Kerber is a solid selection against Kaia Kanepi and three-time Australian Open quarter-finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova should beat unseeded Hungarian Anna Bondar. Complete the acca with a bet on Aryna Sabalenka to justify favouritism against Storm Sanders.

Story of day one

A hard-fought victory for Russian Aslan Karatsev over unseeded Jaume Munar meant a win for Racing Post Sport's day one accumulator at the Australian Open.

The six-fold paid 7-1 with bet365 and also featured Carlos Alcaraz, Reilly Opelka, Matteo Berrettini, Madison Keys and Camila Giorgi, who all progressed.

Women's outright favourite Ashleigh Barty also began her Australian Open title bid with a ruthless 6-0 6-1 dismantling of qualifier Lesia Tsurenko on day one.

Home talent Barty won 11 games in a row before Tsurenko got on the board and the top seed, who is 11-4 to win the first Grand Slam of the season, took only 54 minutes to book her spot in the second round, while defending champion Naomi Osaka is also through after beating Camila Osorio in straight sets.

Cori Gauff was the upset of the day in the women's draw, losing 6-4 6-2 to Wang Qiang, despite having been 1-12 to prevail.

In the men's draw, British number one and 12th seed Cameron Norrie is out after a 6-3 6-0 6-4 loss to American starlet Sebastian Korda, who could be one to keep an eye on.

Speaking after the match, Norrie said: "I was never really in the match at all. I played a loose game at the start of every set and he took care of his serve very well.

"I am disappointed with my level throughout."

Rafael Nadal, targeting a 21st Grand Slam title and returning from injury, dispatched Marcos Giron in straight sets in his first-round encounter. The Spaniard is 6-1 to win the 2022 Australian Open.

And against compatriot Daniel Altmaier, Alex Zverev also won without dropping a set.

Day two highlights

As well as Evans and Murray, another British star on show on day two in Melbourne is Emma Raducanu.

The teenager shocked the world with her 400-1 victory at the US Open last year, beating Leylah Fernandez in the final, but she faces a tough start to the Australian Open.

The Brit will lock horns with another Flushing Meadows winner in American Sloane Stephens, who is a previous Australian Open semi-finalist, and is worth opposing.

Raducanu has been in poor form since her New York triumph, losing four of her last six matches, and Stephens looks the bet of the day at odds-against.

Following Novak Djokovic's withdrawal, second seed Daniil Medvedev will now fancy his chances of going all the way and faces Henri Laaksonen on day two while Andrey Rublev and Felix Auger-Aliassime are among the other big names involved.

Best bet
Sloane Stephens to beat Emma Raducanu
