Experienced Italian Camila Giorgi enjoyed a decent 2021, progressing to the quarter-finals of the women's tennis in the Tokyo Olympics, and she can book her place in the third round by beating Tereza Martincova.
Aslan Karatsev was pushed in his opener but came through that contest with Jaume Munar and can defeat Mackenzie McDonald, while Madison Keys, fresh from knocking out 11th seed Sofia Kenin, is a solid bet against Jaqueline Cristian.
Pedro Martinez should fancy his chances against Cristian Garin, while Reilly Opelka can oust Dominik Koepfer, who lost his only match in the recent Melbourne Summer Set.
Complete the accumulator with Latvian ace Jelena Ostapenko to justify favouritism against Alison Riske.
Story of day two
Britain's Emma Raducanu completed a New York fairytale when winning the US Open in September and the teenage sensation silenced her critics with an authoritative 6-0 2-6 6-1 win over another former Grand Slam champion in Sloane Stephens.
Raducanu's Australian Open preparations had been poor and she had lost four of her six starts since claiming Major success in the States.
However, the British starlet showed her liking for the big occasion and again delivered her best when it mattered most.
The Londoner was 40-1 to claim a second successive Grand Slam title before a ball had been served but is now as short as 12-1 as she prepares to play Montenegro's Danka Kovinic in round two.
Raducanu's US Open final victim Leylah Fernandez was the biggest disappointment of the day as she crashed to a first-round exit against Australia's Maddison Inglis.
Fernandez had been 1-10 for a first-round win, while punters' fingers were also burnt as 2016 champion Angelique Kerber was dumped out by Kaia Kanepi.
Upsets were harder to come by in the men's event as tournament favourite Daniil Medvedev and fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas both recorded straight-sets wins against Henri Laaksonen and Mikael Ymer.
British duo Andy Murray and Dan Evans also progressed to round two, although Liam Broady was unable to join them as he was swatted aside by home favourite Nick Kyrgios.

Day three highlights
With Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer both absent, Rafael Nadal is the only one of the 'Big Three' involved in Melbourne and headlines the action in the men's singles draw on day three.
In the second round on Wednesday Nadal faces Yannick Hanfmann, who has only just won his first match in a Grand Slam event.
Teenager Carlos Alcaraz has consistently been referred to as the heir to Nadal's throne in Spain and the youngster can show his class by dismantling Dusan Lajovic in his next match.
The 18-year-old won the Next Gen ATP Finals at the end of last year with ease and backing him to win in straight sets against Lajovic, whose opener went the distance, could be the day's best bet.
Maria Sakkari and Naomi Osaka are two of the biggest names playing in the women's draw on day three and face Qinwen Zheng and Madison Brengle respectively.
Best bet
Carlos Alcaraz to beat Dusan Lajovic 3-0
