Match preview

Australia and England laid on a thriller in their T20 series opener in Perth on Sunday morning and expect more of the same when they clash in game two in Canberra.

The Aussies will be appreciably stronger than they were in the narrow eight-run loss at the weekend with up to seven players available for recalls – although wholesale chopping and changing may play into England's hands.

And the evidence is that, of the two, England seem to be timing it just right for the T20 World Cup, which starts on Sunday.

England have now won three in a row - the final two games in Pakistan and on Sunday in Perth - they have Jos Buttler back and leading from the front, while Ben Stokes is better for the run at the weekend after a length lay-off.

Australia seem to be a million miles from that position with skipper Aaron Finch, belatedly and some might say desperately, deciding that he is going to go back to the top of the order after a trial further down, although his form is hardly spellbinding.

Where Australia will be stronger is in the bowling attack. Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazelwood, Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa were spared the trip to Western Australia, but if just two of those are drafted in for game two, the Baggy Green are immeasurably more potent.

Zampa is the bowler who appeals most at 100-30 to be top Aussie wicket-taker. His control is beautiful for a leggie and this is a man who has starred at World Cups before. He will add plenty to the Australian attack when he returns, which should be for this next game.

One man who also looks right on his game at the moment is David Warner, whose 73 off 44 balls at the weekend was sublime. He's 11-5 to be top Aussie runscorer.
