Attacks to rule when Benfica meet CSKA
BT Sport Extra, 7.45pm Tuesday
Bruno Varela has kept only two clean sheets since becoming Benfica’s goalkeeper and there may be some more teething problems for their new-look defence.
The Lisbon hosts should still get the win and Varela may be taken out of the firing line but the summer departures have weakened them as a defensive unit.
Ace stopper Ederson was sold to Manchester City, centre-back Victor Lindelof went to Manchester United and right-back Nelson Semedo departed for Barcelona. Left-back Alex Grimaldo has also been sidelined due to injury.
That should give CSKA Moscow hope but the Russians are usually out of their depth at this level, finishing bottom in each of their last four Champions League group campaigns.
CSKA’s defensive veterans could once again struggle to contain the likes of Jonas.
