Day three preview
All eyes will be firmly fixed on the heavyweight clash between Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem as they battle for supremacy in the London Group, but a better punting opportunity may arise on Tuesday evening when Stefanos Tsitsipas tackles Andrey Rublev.
Nadal is 4-7 to oust Thiem and although he impressed with the manner in which he dismissed a red-hot Rublev 6-3 6-4 in his ATP Finals curtain-raiser, he has lost two of his last three meetings with Thiem and the gap in class between the pair is narrowing.
With that in mind, swerving that duel completely and having an interest in the concluding contest between Tsitsipas and Rublev to go the distance may be the best approach.
Tsitsipas is the reigning champion in this event, having toppled Thiem in last year’s final but his title defence started with defeat against the Austrian, who clinched Sunday’s opener in three sets.
The Greek youngster’s last five matches have all gone to a deciding set and he won’t have things easy against Rublev, who is in the form of his life having clinched five titles this year and three since play resumed in August.
There looks to be little separating these young guns on current form and as they have shared their previous six meetings equally, it may take some time before one stamps their authority.
