Daniil Medvedev has assumed the mantle of chief tormentor to the stars with aplomb, but the Russian may have more on his plate in his Shanghai Masters final clash with Alexander Zverev than some might expect.

Medvedev looks as if he could be feeling the pace after a long, successful campaign which saw him reach the final of the US Open.

But while Zverev was all at sea earlier in the season, he seems to be growing in confidence as the end of the year approaches.

Zverev, who won two sets comfortably in his quarter-final victory over Roger Federer, made light work of sweeping aside the impressive Matteo Berrettini 6-3 6-4 in their last-four clash in Shanghai.

Medvedev, who trails Zverev 4-1 in their personal series, pipped Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6 7-5 in their semi-final but anyone who supported the Russian on total-games handicaps should probably consider themselves fortunate.

Zverev looks the fresher performer going into the final. Medvedev has bounced back from adversity with routine wins over lesser players in the past, but the German is a former world number three and a powerful unit who is filling out well as he gets older.
