Rafael Nadal roared back to form to win the Barcelona Open for the 12th time last month but if the King of Clay is ever thought to be vulnerable on his favoured surface it is at the ATP Madrid Open.
Nadal has also won double-digit titles at the French Open and the Monte Carlo Masters and nine Italian Opens. Yet, since this event moved to clay in 2009, he has won just four times in 11 attempts.
While the Majorcan is never opposed lightly, he looks worth taking on at the prices, particularly as he's joined in the top half of the draw by Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem and Andrey Rublev.
Monte Carlo champion and Barcelona runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas is the obvious choice from the bottom half but, at bigger odds, the eye is drawn to Daniil Medvedev, who should enjoy the quicker conditions in Madrid and is apparently fighting fit after a positive coronavirus test which ruled him out of Monte Carlo.
Better known for his hard-court prowess, Medvedev knows he needs to improve on a modest clay record but he did reach the Barcelona final two years ago and if anyone is overpriced it's the Russian.
