Afghani teen can shine for Hyderabad
Spinner Khan has huge potential
Hyderabad v Delhi
Sky Sports 2, 3.30pm Wednesday
IPL franchises spent more than £11m in February's pre-season auction but few expected 18-year-old Afghanistan international Rashid Khan to be among the most sought-after players at the event.
By the time the hammer had fallen Khan had been sold to reigning IPL champions Sunrisers Hyderabad for around £485,000. On the evidence so far that could be something of a bargain.
Leg-spinner Khan has taken nine wickets in Hyderabad's five outings at just 16.11 runs per wicket and may continue his meteoric rise with another starring role when the Sunrisers face Delhi Daredevils on Wednesday.
The dry surfaces of the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium have complemented Khan's bowling perfectly - seven of the Afghan's nine victims have come at the venue and Delhi will be hard pressed to nullify his potent threat on such pitches.
Variations are key in any form of limited-overs cricket but even in spite of his inexperience, Khan already possesses an accurate googly that is difficult to pick.
He was forced to play second fiddle to seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar (5-19) in Hyderabad's narrow over Kings XI Punjab on Monday but with conditions in his favour, Khan is worth a punt to take centre stage with the ball.
It's difficult to argue with bookmakers' assumption that this should be a close contest.
They make the hosts narrow 8-11 favourites to claim a fourth win of the season but Delhi are a capable side on their day and it could come down to the closing stages.
