40-1 Holder can rock Stockholm Grand Prix
Stockholm Grand Prix
BT Sport 2, 6pm Saturday
Chris Holder's title hopes never materialised this season but a fine showing in Germany two weeks ago suggests the former world champ is overpriced to make the podium in Stockholm.
Only the top eight in the field are guaranteed returns in 2018 and Holder, currently tenth, knows he needs to score big in the last three races to overhaul Martin Vaculik and Matej Zagar.
It’s a task that’s probably beyond the Aussie but the 14 points he claimed in Teterow, where he made the final, showed his class and spirit.
Zagar and Vaculik, first and second at the Bergring Arena, are going to be dangers as is Holder’s compatriot Jason Doyle, plus Patryk Dudek, Maciej Janowski and Freddie Lindgren who are in the midst of a gripping four-way title bout.
Bartosz Zmarzlik arrives at the tapes fresh from a 15-point maximum to book Vetlanda a place in the Eliteserien final, though the first leg of that final is on Tuesday and the Pole may want to keep his powder dry for that.
