b m Muhaarar - Penelopa (Giant's Causeway)
Led early, raced in second from 2nd, jumped right 6th, led again before 8th, joined 10th, lost position 2 out, weakened last (inquiry held into running and riding of mare which, having been a heavy, odds-on favourite overnight had drifted throughout the day of race before going off 11/8f and finishing fifth, beaten 13l; jockey explained that he was happy with his position throughout race, helping to set an even tempo, but did indicate that mare's jumping was not as slick as is customary on occasions; he added that when mare came under pressure there was a very limited response to his urgings and ultimately he was very disappointed in mare's failure to finish the race off.; trainer, when interviewed via telephone, had no explanation for mare's performance, other than indicating that despite mare having form on soft ground when contesting weaker races in Ireland, she concluded that perhaps mare would appreciate less testing conditions now racing in a higher grade; vet examined mare during routine testing and had nothing to report; trainer reported that a post-race endoscopic examination of mare revealed no adverse findings) (op Evens)
