Took keen hold, held up in midfield, towards rear when not fluent 5th, not fluent 4 out, soon nudged along, ridden briefly and some headway after 3 out, tenderly handled from 2 out, went modest fourth run-in (jockey said, regarding running and riding, that the gelding was lit up in the preliminaries and ran very free in the early stages, a fact he reported at Scales, and as a result the gelding was jumping sketchily. As the gelding began to tire in the home straight and being mindful that the gelding has fallen in the past, he tried to hold him together on the approach to the hurdles in order to negotiate them safely, then having jumped the last, he stayed on at the one pace and never made any ground on the leading horses; vet reported that a post-race examination of the gelding during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities) (op 10/1)
