'You always want to be doing better' - Jamie Moore closing in on record tally
Jamie Moore, on the verge of his best-ever season in terms of winners, is keen to build on the momentum of his Grade 1-winning campaign.
Moore partnered 75 winners in the 2007-08 season but with 74 already on the board this time, he is about to surpass that personal best having easily topped the 34, 23 and 24 winners of the preceding three seasons.
Among the highlights has been the resurgence of Goshen, who won twice in February at Sandown and Wincanton, while Moore also brought up his seventh Grade 1 winner when he rode Porticello to win the Finale Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow in December, his first top-level success since Sire De Grugy won the 2015 Tingle Creek.
Reflecting on his campaign, Moore said: "I'm happy with it but to be honest, I had 24 winners last season and I don't feel any different to how I feel looking at this season.
"When you've been doing it as long as I have, you have good years and bad ones, you just get used to it. Obviously, you want to ride as many winners as possible, so it's nice in that respect, but you learn to take the rough with the smooth.
"You always want to be doing better, you're never happy, and I'd love to be doing better than what I'm doing. All you can do is try your best and give every ride 110 per cent."
The majority of his winners, 57, have come from his father Gary, and there is plenty of excitement for the West Sussex-based stable for the future.
Moore said: "We've got lots of nice horses to look forward to; we're lucky to have great owners that want to carry on investing. It's very important and you can't do it without them, and you certainly can't do it without the horses.
"It'd be great if we could have another successful year, staying injury-free, both me and the horses."
Moore has also picked up 17 winners on horses not trained by his father, including five for John Spearing, and the rider is hoping to attract more outside rides.
He added: "I don't get many outside rides but I get a few, it's always nice to get the support from other people, but you always want more rides.
"I've been riding for John [Spearing] for a long time. He's a lovely man and I'd love him to have more horses."
