Trainer Ed Bethell secured a Group winner in his first season last year and punters have latched onto Oviedo, who bids to double his tally in the Acomb Stakes (2.25).

Available at 12-1 last night, the son of Lope De Vega is now a best-price 15-2 to land the Group 3 contest.

He made an impressive winning debut over 7f at Doncaster last month and the form has been franked by the runner-up since making a successful handicap debut.

Bethell said: "It's a hot race but he has physically improved from his race at Doncaster and the runner-up has gone on to win.

"I'm really looking forward to having a go and I'm doing a rain dance as easier ground would be a big help."

In the same race, there has been some support for the Andrew Balding-trained Chaldean, who can be backed at 9-2 (from 6).

The form of his win at Newbury last time has been boosted and he is another with a strong chance.

There has been very little market movement in the feature Juddmonte International (3.35) with Baaeed holding firm at a general 4-9 to maintain his unbeaten record.

Market movers

2.25
Chaldean 9-2 (from 6)
Oviedo 15-2 (from 12)

Streets Of Gold 4-1 (from 6)

Going eases slightly for opening day

The going at York has eased to good, good to firm in places (from good to firm) for the first day of the Ebor festival after 3mm of rainfall overnight.

Speaking at 8am, raceday clerk of the course Anthea Leigh said: "We had 3mm of rain overnight, it started raining a bit before 8pm and was on and off, and it was generally light rain until about 7am this morning.

"It's clear now, although cool and cloudy, and we've changed the going to good, good to firm in places. It's predominantly good on the straight course, it's just the last furlong and the North bend that's good to firm.

"It's meant to be cool and cloudy throughout today so there won't be much drying and we didn't irrigate last night. We had it in our plans to do the North and South bend but when the rain started, we cancelled the programme."

The feature Juddmonte International sees Baaeed step up to 1m2f for the first time in search of a sixth consecutive Group 1.

"It's massive, it's absolutely brilliant to have him here," said Leigh. "He's the highest-rated horse in the world and there's a huge supporting cast.

"It's going to be very competitive, it's not going to be a walk in the park for him – we couldn't be more excited."
