Yanworth lined up for clash with Willoughby Court
Alan King is ready to send Yanworth back into the fray as soon as next week at Newbury for a potential clash with fellow exciting novice chaser Willoughby Court.
King reported last season's Christmas and Liverpool Hurdle winner to be fine after his tumble at Exeter last week and is now eyeing the Grade 2 Ladbrokes Novices’ Chase on Friday, December 1.
That race is also the target for Willoughby Court, the winner of the Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March, who made a winning start to his chasing career at Huntingdon this month.
Yanworth, a winner on his chase debut, fell at the seventh fence when sent off 2-9 favourite for his second start at Exeter.
King, speaking in his Racing Post Weekender column, said: “I'm glad to say Yanworth is none the worse for his fall at Exeter and I hope he'll be back in action as soon as next week.
“There's every chance he'll go for the 2m3f novice chase on the Friday of the Ladbrokes Trophy meeting at Newbury.
“Happily, he seems absolutely fine after that mishap. He cantered on Monday and he'll school later in the week. He didn't have a hard race at Exeter as he didn't get very far and, if anything, he was fresher last week than he had been when winning there first time over fences, which is a sign he's enjoying it.
“Yanworth's fall was just one of those unfortunate things, he didn't do an awful lot wrong and let's hope he's learned from it.”
The seven-year-old is a top-price 12-1 for the JLT Novices’ Chase at the festival, 14-1 for the RSA Chase and 25-1 for the Racing Post Arkle.
