Arena Racing Company will today monitor the take-up for a 1m4f maiden at Wolverhampton on Saturday after the race had to be reopened having attracted a paltry entry of two horses.

Trainers will have another chance to make entries for the £10 Free At 32Red.com Maiden Auction Stakes after the deadline for submissions was extended to 11am on Tuesday following the initial poor turnout.

It was one of nine weekend races reopened for another 24 hours by Weatherbys on Monday after failing to attract at least ten entries.

Arc spokesman Sam Cone said: "We don't know why the race hasn't performed hugely well – I don't think there are any particular clashes. We will wait for the reopening period to close and see how it does and then we will work with the BHA to try identify any reasons for the poor entry and see what might need to be done."

The race has been staged twice, attracting five runners last year and six the year before. Both times the winners have been trained by David Simcock.

The Wolverhampton race is worth £5,500, while a £4,500 sprint maiden, also for three-year-olds, at Lingfield the same day drew a moderate four initial entries.
