The early departures of Eamon An Cnoic and Highway One O One worked against Belami Des Pictons, who found himself marooned out the back at an early stage in the BetVictor Gold Cup.
Venetia Williams' eight-year-old could not land a blow but made gradual progress through the field, eventually finishing fourth, and he would not have been far away with a clear run.
He remains lightly raced and has some good form looking back, with the likes of Waiting Patiently, while he is also unexposed at staying trips, which is where his future ultimately lies. [Keith Melrose]

Cloudy Glen
Fourth, Exeter, Wednesday
A brother by Cloudings to a point winner, Cloudy Glen was a slow learner over hurdles, taking six runs to go in but then winning three of his last four starts.
The six-year-old was much quicker to take to fences and jumped really well in front at Exeter. He was ridden forcefully and faded late on, which was totally understandable given it was his reappearance on heavy ground.
It is over fences that he will thrive and, with that run behind him, he should be up to winning in this new sphere near to hand and keep progressing beyond that. [Keith Melrose]

Aye Aye Charlie
Fourth, Cheltenham, Saturday
Aye Aye Charlie had his second run over fences when finishing fourth behind Wholestone in the novice chase at Cheltenham.
Fergal O'Brien's seven-year-old, eighth in the Albert Bartlett last season, showed great heart to be beaten just six and a quarter lengths having been hampered at the ninth fence and failed to jump with any fluency in the closing stages.
If he can improve in the jumping department, which seems likely as he gains experience over fences, I can see Aye Aye Charlie picking up a nice prize in the near future. [Joshua Stacey]

Warthog
Third, Cheltenham, Saturday
Warthog was a really encouraging third in the BetVictor Gold Cup on his first run since being pulled up in the National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
Despite running in the four-miler, this certainly seems like his best trip as he raced up with the pace throughout and only faded out of contention up the hill.
David Pipe's chaser was the only one of the principals without the benefit of a previous run and his absence just told at that point.
He ought to come on for this run and his day might well come in the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup back at Cheltenham next month. [Joshua Stacey]
