William Hill first bookmaker to offer non-runner concession

Jon Ivan-Duke: William Hill refunding stakes on festival non runner
1 of 1

William Hill launched a Cheltenham Festival insurance offer yesterday, guaranteeing money back on festival non-runners or a free bet if the horse is switched to a different race at the meeting.

The bookmaker became the first to offer an ante-post non-runner concession, available across all channels, on every race at the festival.

Under the terms of the scheme, which applies to all ante-post wagers struck after 5pm yesterday, any single bets placed on non-runners will be refunded and if the horse contests another race at Cheltenham the stake will be returned as a free bet (up to £25) to be used at the the meeting.

William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke said: "If your horse doesn’t run at the festival, you get your money back and you’ll get a free bet if any trainers tinker with which race to run in."

Six winners of last weekend's Tote Scoop6 are in with a chance of adding a further £32,334 to their haul of £34,009 today if they can pick the winner of the bonus race, the Sky Bet Handicap Chase at Doncaster.

This week’s Win Fund will start at £12,933 and should top £100,000 before the first race.

Today's Scoop6 races are: 12:35 Cheltenham, 1:10 Cheltenham, 1:25 Doncaster, 3:25 Cheltenham, 3:40 Doncaster, 4:00 Cheltenham.
