The Betfair Sprint Cup (3.30 Haydock) is the standout feature over the weekend and we have looked back over a number of factors to see who may win Saturday's Group 1 showdown.

Ratings

In the last ten years, Twilight Son (2015) has been the only winner rated lower than 110. He was rated 104 when he brushed past rivals such as Adaay and Gordon Lord Byron.

Six of the previous ten winners have been rated 115 or higher, with Dream Of Dreams being the highest at 120.

Distance

G Force is the only winner from the previous ten runnings not to have won over 6f prior to success in the Sprint Cup.

City Of York hero Kinross is the only potential runner this year yet to have won over this trip and is dropping in distance.

Class

Nine of the last ten winners had ran at Group 1 level prior to the race, with eight of them finishing inside the top three.

Twilight Son was the only winner since 2012 not to have run in such company, while G Force finished sixth in the Nunthorpe on his first start in a Group 1 before his Sprint Cup success.

Odds

Given the quality of previous winners, shocks are hard to find in this race based on ten-year trends.

Emaraaty Ana, who bids to become the first back-to-back winner since Be Friendly in 1966/67, was the joint biggest-priced winner in the past decade at 11-1 last year along with G Force in 2014.

In the other eight Sprint Cups since 2012, three horses have justified favouritism and Hello Youmzain was co-favourite in 2019.

Verdict

There are a number of horses who meet certain trends, but the pick is the Charlie Appleby-trained Naval Crown.

The four-year-old was last seen when finishing fifth to Highfield Princess in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville. Although he has only won once over this trip, that sole victory came in the Group 1 Platinum Jubilee at the royal meeting, and he is the highest rated with on official mark of 118.

He has been a consistent performer and has more to offer in top sprints judging by his efforts this year.

Betfair: 5-2 Minzaal, 5 Naval Crown, 13-2 Emaraaty Ana, 8 Art Power, Kinross, Rohaan, 12 Go Bears Go, 14 Brad The Brief, 18 Harry Three, 16 Castle Star, Dragon Symbol, 18 bar
