Harry Fry: very hopeful for Space Oddity
1 of 1

2.25 Newbury
Ladbrokes Open Handicap Chase | 2m4f | 4yo+ | ITV4/RUK

No matter how he fares with Unowhatimeanharry in the day's feature event, Harry Fry is full of hope that he can land the richest handicap on the Newbury card with Space Oddity, whose form is working out well.

The trainer said: "He's been running well and ran a very good second at Ascot behind Benatar of Gary Moore's, who's won again since.

"We were keen to go for a half-decent handicap while he was still on the way up the ladder. He's in good form and I hope he has a very good chance."

Go on my son

Nigel Twiston-Davies won this with Little Jon two years ago and his Jameson stayed on gamely to get up close home in a novice handicap chase at Sandown three weeks ago.

The trainer said: "It's quite a big shout for him but he seems to be improving so I hope he can do it.

"He's been put up a lot by the handicapper but I hope it works out. He jumps very nicely."

Stepping outside novice company

Ridgeway Flyer is unbeaten over fences but takes on experienced handicappers for the first time after victories in novice company at Plumpton and Taunton.

"It's a step up in class but he's in good shape," said trainer Paul Nicholls. "He's won his only two starts for me and he's won his last four altogether."

Willie Boy has also won both his completed starts over fences, scoring over this course and distance on his seasonal reappearance last month.

What they say

Nicky Henderson, trainer of O O Seven
e's in good form, it's his first run of the season but this is a nice race for him. He was very consistent last season but he's got himself very high in the handicap.

Emma Lavelle, trainer of Vibrato Valtat
In many ways I was happy with how he ran at Exeter. He's come out of the race really well and the ground will be a bit nicer for him this time. He's in good order and has a squeak.

Dan Skelton, trainer of Oldgrangewood
I'm happy with him after Aintree, he ran a nice race there and I hope he can build on that. This is  a competitive race but I'm glad there are only eight runners.

Oliver Sherwood, trainer of Icing On The Cake
He's in good form. Most of mine are needing their first run and I'm certain that in a race of this calibre he'll be short of peak fitness but we know he loves Newbury.
