'It has got to be Adayar – 5-1 is big for the Arc'

That's an easy one if you're using Lone Eagle as the gauge, but I suspect we saw a different Lone Eagle at the Curragh to the one whose effort petered out tamely at Ascot. But, no matter what way you want to weigh it up, it has got to be Adayar.

It looked as though he had loads left in the tank when Mishriff loomed on his outside and he's now proven himself on quick ground too.

Given he's guaranteed to handle conditions no matter what way it comes up at Longchamp, 5-1 looks a big price to me in the Arc.

'He has beaten two top-class animals'

On the bare form, you would have to say Adayar. In beating Mishriff and Love he has beaten two top-class animals, and don't forget he had Hurricane Lane in behind when steamrolling the Derby field.

Hurricane Lane went into that race as the clear number-one in Charlie Appleby and William Buick's eyes and, while he has proved their faith with impressive wins in the Irish Derby and Grand Prix de Paris, Adayar is a horse who has already beaten him once and, if they met again, you would have to imagine Buick would be on board.

'Don't presume Hurricane Lane isn't up to something similar'

It's a tough question as Hurricane Lane improved from Epsom to win imperiously at Longchamp, recording a Racing Post Rating of 123, the same figure Adayar produced in the Derby.

The substance of Adayar's form is stronger as he beat his elders in the King George, but who is to say Hurricane Lane would not have done the same?

Both are strong, powerful horses with abundant reserves of stamina and I think a decent pace is important to them both.

Ultimately, I'll go with Adayar because of what he did after being slightly keen at Ascot, but don't presume Hurricane Lane isn't up to something similar.
