'She's had a Dubawi colt and he's the nicest she's had so far' - looking to the past and future with Classic star Anapurna

Anapurna, who won the Lingfield Oaks Trial on a wet day in 2019 before going on to Classic glory at Epsom, now resides at her owners Meon Valley Stud in Hampshire where they are celebrating the foaling of her first ever colt.
Mark Weinfeld, managing partner to Meon Valley Stud, said: "We've had a breakthrough recently as Anapurna has foaled a colt. He's by Dubawi and he's probably the nicest foal she's had so far. Like most of ours, he'll be going to the sales as we sell most of our stock as we have to pay the bills, although we have a few fillies in training every year plus those that don't sell.
"Anapurna's had fillies up until now including her first foal Monterosa, who is now back with us. She also has a two-year-old filly by Kingman that we sold last year [550,000gns at Tattersalls October Book 1] who is owned by Marc Chan and Anthony Rosen and is at Ralph Beckett's pre-training, so there's plenty to look forward to."

The daughter of Frankel routed her opposition by six lengths in the Lingfield Oaks Trial under Frankie Dettori six years ago, following up another wide-margin success at the neighbouring all-weather circuit on her previous start.
After her Listed win all roads led to Epsom, where she went on to account for Pink Dogwood. She then registered a second Group 1 win in the Prix de Royallieu at Longchamp later that year.
Recalling the day in Surrey six years ago, Weinfeld added: "I wasn't at Lingfield when she won the Oaks Trial as I had a prior engagement, so I ended up watching it on TV. Instead, my daughter and my sister went and got absolutely soaked as it didn't stop raining and they resorted to buying pack-a-macs that someone was selling on track.

"After that, Anapurna gave us an even greater day when winning the Oaks and she won the Prix de Royallieu later on, but we always intended to retire her at the end of that year. She's been here ever since."
