Minzaal leads the way as Saturday's Haydock Sprint Cup provides Group 1 action

Monday

All eyes were on William Buick at Epsom as the leading rider tried to maintain the scintillating form which saw him win on eight of his 12 rides at Goodwood over the weekend.

Buick, who holds a healthy advantage over Hollie Doyle in the race to be champion jockey, rode a 708-1 five-timer on Saturday and followed that up with a treble on Sunday.

And his week started as the last ended as he struck on 7-4 favourite Bonita B in the 6f handicap.

Evocative Spark failed to figure in the 7f handicap, with Buick unable to add another winner in the penultimate 5.00 1m½f handicap as Typical Man couldn't get involved.

There were six other meetings taking place on a bank holiday in Britain, with Roscommon hosting a seven-race Flat card in Ireland.

Tuesday

A quieter day with just five meetings. Epsom races for the second day in a row and Mark Johnston will be bidding to add to his run of success in the 1m½f maiden (2.15). The trainer has taken four of the last five runnings and he and son Charlie will look for another victory with the once-raced Cool Party.

Chepstow and Ripon also host for the second day in succession, while the evening action comes from Carlisle and Newton Abbot.

Wednesday

Racing on the all-weather makes up the afternoon action with fixtures at Southwell, Lingfield and Wolverhampton.

The only Irish meeting of the day comes from Gowran Park, while the evening fare at Hamilton features the two-year-old series final nursery (6.25). Worcester hosts a seven-race card, with the bumper (5.40) set to feature Queens Highway, who is seeking a hat-trick.

Thursday

Salisbury hosts the Group 3 Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes (3.20), which brings some much needed heat to midweek. The feature race is one targeted by Richard Hannon, who could rely on Immortal Beauty, Minnetonka and Miami Girl.

It is the first of three days at Haydock building up to the Betfair Sprint Cup on Saturday. The 2018 Queen Anne winner Accidental Agent is among the entries for the conditions stakes (4.15).

Brian Ellison has won four of the last five runnings of the 2m1f handicap hurdle (2.00) at Sedgefield and could run Gordon's Jet, while the evening action comes from Clonmel and Windsor, which hosts week four of the Racing League.

Friday

It's a small but select bunch of meetings with just four fixtures in Britain. The second day at Haydock features The Tin Man Handicap (3.03) with the likes of Dakota Gold and Royal Ascot runner-up Popmaster among the entries.

Ascot hosts two interesting novices and a maiden (2.35), where we could see Lion Tamer, who is entered in next year's Derby at Epsom for John and Thady Gosden, and also the Aidan O'Brien-trained Canute, who still holds an entry for the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes in October.

There are also all-weather meetings at Newcastle and Kempton, while the Irish action comes from Down Royal and Kilbeggan.

Saturday

All eyes will be drawn to Haydock, which hosts the Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup (3.30). A whole host of top-level performers are set to line up with Hackwood Stakes winner Minzaal currently heading the market. There will be no rematch with Nunthorpe winner Highfield Princess however, after she was pulled from the race on Monday.

The Group 3 Superior Mile Stakes (1.45) and the Listed Ascendant Stakes (1.15) are the chief support races at the Merseyside track.

Kempton's seven-race card features the Group 3 September Stakes (2.05), which has been won by some top-class performers including Enable (twice).

Thirsk and Stratford are also in action, while there is plenty of prize-money on offer at Ascot.

The Irish fare comes from Navan and Wexford, while the sole evening meeting is on the all-weather at Wolverhampton.

Sunday

Baden-Baden hosts the €200,000 Grosser Preis von Baden with Deutsches Derby winner Sammarco taking on Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Torquator Tasso, who will be partnered by Frankie Dettori in the race he took last year before going to Longchamp.

There are just two meetings in Britain. The Garrowby Stakes (2.55) is the feature at York, while the jumping action comes from Fontwell.
