'We're looking for answers' - handicapping review ongoing as festival looms

The BHA's head of handicapping will wait until after the Cheltenham Festival to assess early signs of the effectiveness of work to equalise the chances of British and Irish runners in handicaps.

The domination of Irish-trained horses at the festival in 2021 prompted the BHA to change the way British horses are handicapped to correct a perceived imbalance in ratings.

Irish-trained horses won seven of the nine handicaps at last year's festival, where runners from British yards were successful in only five of the 28 races.
