Things could get sticky as temperature is set to rise on day two
The temperature is set to rise on day two of Royal Ascot, with clerk of the course Chris Stickels having decided to water the track after the opening day’s action.
“Given the forecast – which is generally a dry week, and probably a little overcast and humid tomorrow – we're going to put 4mm of water on tonight,” said Stickels after racing on Tuesday, having changed the going to good to firm before the first race of the meeting.
He added: “That will be about the evaporation rate and the plan is just to replace any moisture which has been lost.”
A dry and bright afternoon contributed to the crowd on day one being up on last year at 46,773, compared to 44,285.
