Macgiloney fit and fancied to come good on third attempt over hurdles

On the third day of the Galway festival, Tony O'Hehir picks out three to keep an eye out for

Macgiloney (5.10)

A dual bumper winner, more recently at Bellewstown where he scored by ten lengths, the Denis Hogan-trained five-year-old will be attempting to get off the mark over hurdles at the third attempt.

Hogan, who also rides him, said: "It looks a strong maiden with the likes of Debuchet in the line-up, but Macgiloney is a horse we like a lot. He was very good in bumpers and is in super form.

"He's been placed on his two starts over hurdles and jumps well. The ground won't be an issue for him, whether it's soft or better, and we're looking forward to a good run."

Ejayteekay (6.10)

Twice a winner over hurdles, the Gavin Cromwell-trained five-year-old goes in the 2m mares' handicap hurdle and her trainer reports the daughter of Big Bad Bob to be in good shape following her second at Limerick last week.

Of Robbie Colgan's mount, Cromwell said: "She's very well but shes' a mare who travels very strongly in her races and whether she will get home at Galway with its stiff uphill finish is the question. Hopefully she will."

Crecerelle (6.45)

Finian Maguire has twice won the 1m4f amateur riders' maiden for Dermot Weld, scoring on Whitey O'Gwaun (2014) and Time To Inspire (2015).

He is on board the lightly raced Crecerelle for Weld in Wednesday's race, with the form book indicating that slow ground will not inconvenience the son of Redoute's Choice, who was second in a mile maiden at the festival a year ago.

The ground was soft on that occasion and heavy when Weld ran Cimeara – who has gone on to win at Group 3 and Listed level – to half a length in a handicap at Leopardstown in April.

Weld said: "Cecerelle has been consistent and should give a good account. He's shown that he handles soft ground."
