Fanny Logan out to cement her status as another of John Gosden's top fillies

Fanny Logan bids for a second Listed success following her win in a first-time hood at York last month and heads a ten-strong field in a decent renewal of Salisbury's feature contest.

The daughter of Sea The Stars, who retains the headgear, was maintaining the hot streak of John Gosden-trained fillies this summer when staying on well to defeat Glance and the classy Frankellina on the Knavesmire.

Prior to that success, Fanny Logan could only finish ninth to stablemate Star Catcher in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Gosden often runs a nice prospect in this contest, not least subsequent Group 1 winner Journey, who was successful in 2015.

He said: "Fanny Logan won the Lyric Stakes very well at York last time and we've been pleased how she has come out of it. These fillies' Listed races are very important and she goes there with a good shout as she has no penalty.

"If they get the rain they are forecast it won't bother her as she doesn't mind a bit of cut in the ground."

Queen and Skill represent Candy

Henry Candy knows what it takes to land this race, having won it three times in the past five years, and is double-handed this time around with Queen Of Time and Skill Set.

The 97-rated Queen Of Time is the most potent of the pair on official figures and returns to the track after scoring in a handicap over course and distance last time.

The less obvious contender is Skill Set, who is back in trip after failing to stay 1m4f at Newmarket last time and is attempting to get some black type to her name.

Candy said: "It looks like Mr Gosden holds the key to the race with his runner and we'll be playing for place money. We've been very pleased with the progress of Queen Of Time this year and she's strengthening all the time. She should run a big race."

On his other runner, he added: "Skill Set is a very late developer and is just getting there now. This looks a tough ask but hopefully she can get a place."

Sand looking for share of the prize

Ralph Beckett is also two-handed in a bid to win the 1m2f contest for the first time, chiefly with Sand Share who will not mind if any of the forecast rain arrives.

The Khalid Abdullah-owned three-year-old looked to be on the up when third in the Listed Prix Melisande at Longchamp in June.

The winner has since been placed twice at Group level and Sand Share looks to be the main threat to Fanny Logan on ratings.

Beckett said: "This was the obvious slot for Sand Share after her run in France and she won't mind any rain that arrives. The plan is to get her head in front at this level which is important for these well-bred fillies."

On his other runner, Time Change, he added: "She enjoys Salisbury but she won't be suited by any rain if it arrives."

Amanda Perrett, trainer of Lavender's Blue
She goes there in good form but is a good moving filly so any rain may well be against her. She was a bit headstrong last time but we plan to ride her with more restraint this time.

Peter Chapple-Hyam, trainer of Sh Boom
She's in good form but if they get the rain they say is coming she won't run.

Spotlight verdict

It would be no surprise if Lavender's Blue was a major player but all has not gone smoothly for her since her highly promising Newbury run in May and it's hard to know how far down she is on the comeback trail. FANNY LOGAN comes here fresh from a good York win when fitting a hood back at 1m2f worked well for her. Time Change has something to find at the weights (though she is due a good rise for her recent Bath win) but she is going the right way and could be a threat.
