All you need to know as Ayr belatedly begins its Flat season

Ayr has endured some false starts to its Flat season this year, but at the fourth time of asking it starts today.

The track's slow recovery from drainage work, which was undertaken due to problems identified after the Gold Cup meeting was wiped out in 2017, caused Ayr's first three meetings to be lost.

But this afternoon there is an eight-race card to enjoy, with the highlight the Listed Tennent's Lager British Stallion Studs EBF Rothesay Stakes (4.05) for fillies and mares.

Elsewhere, there is more Flat action at Cork, Yarmouth and on the all-weather at Kempton. Jumps fans are also well catered for, with meetings at Southwell, Warwick and Wexford.

Last year the 6f fillies' novice stakes at Kempton (7.25) was won by subsequent Woodbine Grade 1 winner La Pelosa. Could there be another star in waiting in the field this evening?
