'Absolute legend' Seamster to sew up a century at Catterick

Seamster, winner of 16 races during a wonderful career, is set to make his 100th appearance in the 5f handicap (4.30) at Catterick on Wednesday, with trainer David Loughnane confident of a big run.

The dashing 11-year-old sprinter has scored twice over the course and distance, and recent efforts confirm the fire still burns.

"He’s an absolute legend," Loughnane said. "He’s a very sound horse and has a great constitution. He thrives on his racing.

"We bought him two years ago and tried to retire him at the end of last season, but he didn’t want to.

"He loves his job and is a very easy horse to train. We’ll keep going with him – he’ll have a home for life here when he does eventually retire – and is on a very winnable mark at the moment."

David Loughnane: 'I'm sure he'll run well'

A couple of missed breaks have cost Seamster dear at Nottingham recently, allied to the fact he pulled a shoe off on both those occasions.

However, he shaped really well when third behind the hugely progressive Dapper Man last time out and is down to his last winning mark of 70.

Seamster will be reunited at Catterick with apprentice Cameron Noble, who won five times on the ex-Godolphin gelding during the summer of 2016, and Loughnane added: "Cameron has a great partnership with the horse and we promised him the ride for Seamster’s 100th race. I am sure he’ll run well."
