'We really don't know where the ceiling is with her - that's the exciting part'
Not knowing the limit of your horse’s ability is as exciting as it gets for connections and that is the case with Mares’ Novices' Hurdle winner Love Envoi, with the unbeaten star being considered for a tilt at Grade 1 company at Fairyhouse next month.
The Harry Fry-trained six-year-old extended her unbeaten record to six – her five hurdle victories coming in 105 days – with Thursday's win under Jonathan Burke, having been purchased for £38,000 by Jerry McGrath for Noel Fehily Racing after her bumper success at Wexford for Sean Doyle last year.
Love Envoi will be entered in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Novice Hurdle Championship Final on April 17, a race the trainer landed with the Fehily-ridden Bitofapuzzle in 2015, with the long-term plan to work back from next year’s Mares’ Hurdle.

Fry said: “She’s come out of the race well and enjoyed the sun on her back out in the paddock for the last few days. She'll have an entry for Fairyhouse and we'll see if conditions are in her favour in a fortnight's time and make a decision. She’s only a novice once and clearly one of the best novice mares in training.
“She’s gone way above our expectations. At the start of the season I was wondering if she was even going to win a race, let alone five on the bounce. She’s been a real success story.
“She doesn’t stand out on the gallops, she’s very straightforward and there’s nothing flashy about her, but it doesn’t matter what they do at home, it’s all about what they do on the racecourse. I wouldn’t mind a few more in that mould.
“She’s answered every question we’ve put to her, be it trip, track and class and we really don’t know where the ceiling is with her – that’s the exciting part.
“We’ll look to work back from the Mares’ Hurdle next season. There’s a very good programme for mares and that’s what her campaign will revolve around.”
Love Envoi’s success came six years on from Fry and Fehily teaming up for Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle success with Unowhatimeanharry and was a first Cheltenham Festival strike for the trainer since moving to his new Dorset yard in 2020.
Fry said: “Noel and I had some great days together and he was aboard Unowhatimeanharry back in 2016, so there's some nice symmetry there, and for Ciara [Fry's wife] and I it was a big day. We moved to a new purpose-built yard and had our first Grade 1 winner within six months and now in our second season we're back on the scoreboard at the Cheltenham Festival.”
Constitution Hill’s Supreme Novices' Hurdle victory over Jonbon was a notable form boost for Might I, with Fry eyeing a handicap hurdle at Aintree’s Grand National meeting for the Brian and Sandy Lambert-owned six-year-old.
“He wasn’t quite right after Haydock and we ran out of time to get him absolutely spot on for Cheltenham,” Fry said.
“I think he would have been interesting in the Martin Pipe considering how his form has worked out and we’ll most probably look at a handicap at the Grand National meeting.”
