Daring Tact became the first undefeated winner of the Japanese Fillies' Triple Crown when landing the Shuka Sho at Kyoto on Sunday.

The Haruki Sugiyama-trained three-year-old extended her record to 5-5 to achieve the feat, with other recent Fillies' Triple Crown winners including Almond Eye and Gentildonna.

Daring Tact followed up victories in the Oka Sho (Japanese 1,000 Guineas) and Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) and stayed on best to defeat Magic Castle under Kohei Matsuyama by a length and a quarter.

Matsuyama said: “There was some pressure as we were aiming for her to become the first undefeated Triple Crown filly in Japanese racing history but I’m delighted to be able to accomplish this remarkable feat.

"She seemed a bit nervous in the paddock but she broke well and we were able to race in a good position and in good rhythm. She has developed into a bold filly and I hope she will remain undefeated."

Daring Tact, who may next contest the Japan Cup on November 29, is the fifth Japanese Fillies’ Triple Crown winner since the turn of the millennium, with Still In Love striking in 2003 and Apapane in 2010, while Mejiro l’Amone was the first in 1986.

Star colt Contrail, successful in the Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2,000 Guineas) and Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby), bids to become the eighth Japanese Triple Crown winner in the Kikuka Sho at the same track next Sunday.
