Melbourne Cup hope gets workout as silence greets opening of watered gallop

The watered gallop was reopened on Saturday morning after being closed for a month to prioritise watering of the racecourses, but surprisingly the only taker was Chris Wall.

A recent welcome 33mm of rain meant the Jockey Club did not have to water ahead of the final fixture at the July course last weekend, leaving a surplus of water in its reservoir.

Wall highlighted the importance of getting a two-year-old on a turf facility when sending the Caravaggio filly Valtellina (Ted Durcan) upsides sprinter Hi Ho Silver over six furlongs.
