Recognising the relative paupers of the sport of kings has been on many new year wishlists within racing for decades.

In an industry dependent on income from punters and one that has become increasingly reliant on product from big corporations from the Middle East and Ireland, the rewarding of the largely domestic grassroots has been a much-debated issue.

The BHA, which under chief executive Nick Rust's leadership has been keen to knit together racing and bookmaker interests, has finally doffed its cap to the problem and racing seems united behind the efforts.
