David Pipe is relying on a returning star and some potentially smart younger horses as he bids to erase the memory of a below par season that yielded only 33 winners last term.

Speaking at an owners’ day at the famous Pond House stables in Somerset, the trainer said: “There's no getting away from it, we had a very disappointing season, with some horses running well below their best while a few of our stars missed some or most of the year – and it showed.

“But I'm positive whatever the issues might have been they are well behind us now – everybody gets these niggles and problems as it’s part and parcel of the training game. You have to be resilient, take it in your stride and bounce back from these setbacks, and that is what's going to happen.”
