Two races on Redcar's Tuesday afternoon Flat card were abandoned following heavy overnight rain.

The track was hit with 21mm of rainfall on Monday night, which left standing water on the round course. The home straight was deemed raceable following a 7.30am inspection.

Clerk of the course Jonjo Sanderson was forced to wait until daylight to examine the track, but confirmed that the BHA had agreed to call off the two contests at 8am.

He said: "The straight course is perfectly raceable but the round course was waterlogged, so we just had to check with the course inspector and the BHA whether we could just abandon the two races, which they've allowed us to do.

"We will be racing on the straight course only, so it's taken a bit of sorting out."

The two contests due to take place on the round course – the 1m2f handicap (3.05) and 1m6f handicap (3.35) – were cancelled and the card was reshuffled to cover the missing races.
