The physical differences on racedays are readily apparent and have been articulated in a crystal clear way since racing resumed in Britain on Monday. You know that it is strange.

There are no crowds – unless the pigeons and seagulls perched carefree on every ledge in sight in Yarmouth's grandstand count – there are no owners, there are no bookies, no Tote staff, no fast-food vendors or no ice-cream sellers. There is no atmosphere.
