Trainers step into commentary box on day one at Newmarket

The first day of Newmarket's two-day 32Red Open Weekend takes place today with several trainers stepping out of their comfort zones and into the commentary box this afternoon.

With the commentator role at ITV racing yet to be filled, some familiar voices might be making a last-minute pitch at the Rowley Mile to join the sport's new terrestrial broadcaster.

Chief among them will be William Haggas, who was awarded the Julian Wilson Trophy last year for the top trainer behind the microphone, joined by David Simcock, Gay Kelleway, Michael Bell, Roger Varian, Mick Quinn and George Margarson.
