Trainer to pursue other interests and spend time with family

David Wachman revealed yesterday, in a surprise announcement, that he would retire from training at the end of the year to pursue other business interests and spend more time with his family.

The 45-year-old, who is married to John Magnier's daughter Katie, has in recent times built up a successful association with a variety of Coolmore horses, and has proved an expert operator with fillies in particular.

Arguably the pick of them all was last year's brilliant 1,000 Guineas heroine Legatissimo, who completed a hat-trick at the highest level in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown.
