The possibility of Prix Jean Prat winner Too Darn Hot dropping back to six furlongs for the first time in his career heightened on Wednesday when he featured among 34 entries for the Sprint Cup at Haydock on September 7.

Connections are keeping their options open after the son of Dubawi, installed as 2-1 favourite by sponsors 32Red, returned to form with a three-length success in the Deauville Group 1 over seven furlongs under Frankie Dettori on Sunday, his first attempt at that distance since his unbeaten two-year-old campaign.

Sprint Cup entries

Trainer John Gosden dropped Too Darn Hot in trip after placed efforts in the Dante, the Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James's Palace at Royal Ascot, where he finished third behind Circus Maximus.

Simon Marsh, racing manager to owner Lord Lloyd-Webber, said: "He showed an enormous amount of speed on Sunday and we want to keep all the doors open.

"It's exciting because he was his old self at Deauville and it was great to get him back on track for the season. We reverted to his strengths, running him over seven furlongs, and he recorded an extraordinarily fast time – he's obviously very quick.

"We got it wrong earlier in the year thinking we could stretch him to a mile and a quarter. The fact he has run consistently well at the top level despite that is testament to him."

Too Darn Hot was also among 20 to remain in contention for the Qatar Sussex Stakes over a mile at Glorious Goodwood on July 31, but his next target has not yet been confirmed, with a return to Deauville for the Prix Jacques Le Marois also an option.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Dream Of Dreams, who failed by a head to catch Blue Point in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes, Commonwealth Cup winner Advertise and Wokingham scorer Cape Byron, the front three in the market for Saturday's July Cup, are possible rivals at Haydock.

Defending champion The Tin Man, who narrowly defeated Brando, could bid to become the first dual winner of the race since Be Friendly in 1967.

The Sprint Cup is one of the few top-level prizes to have eluded Ireland's champion trainer Aidan O'Brien and he has made six entries, including Middle Park winner Ten Sovereigns.
