Tonight's racing: two exciting debutants and a former point-to-pointer to watch
Sandown, Beverley and Yarmouth all host intriguing cards today, but if you come to this evening having yet to back a winner, do not fear. There are meetings at Kelso and Naas taking place with potential star performers on display . . .
Egrecio
6.00 Naas
Unlike most of these, Egrecio has yet to race, but on pedigree Dermot Weld's colt should be able to keep pace with the best of these. A half-brother to Group 1 winner Emulous, this Intello colt is also related to Group 3 winner First Sitting and Listed victor Daring Diva.
Gee Rex, who was eighth in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, and Dumouriez, who represents Ger Lyons, set a high enough standard, but it will be interesting to see how much Egrecio shows.
Goldencard
6.45 Kelso
Keith Dalgleish has an excellent 35 per cent record at Kelso, and Goldencard is having his first start for the trainer after running in four point-to-points for Thomas Malone.
Recording figures of 2462 in that sphere, the five-year-old will receive the assistance of Brian Hughes in the bumper.
Old Glory
7.00 Naas
Save the best until last. Aidan O'Brien won this race with Flag Of Honour last year – the progressive son of Galileo won the Group 1 Irish St Leger on Sunday – but this year he has an even more interesting representative.
Triple Crown winner American Pharoah's connections team up with Coolmore with €1.6 million Frankel colt Old Glory. The horse, who is entered in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes over a furlong further, runs in the yellow and turquoise silks of Zayat Stables.
