Tonight's racing: three runners who catch the eye at Chelmsford and Dundalk

The temperature is dropping outside but there is plenty of quality all-weather action from Dundalk and Chelmsford to keep us warm on Friday. Here are three horses worth keeping an eye on...

Al Kout
7.45 Chelmsford

Plenty of people head to the sales each year hoping to pick up a bargain and it seems trainer Heather Main may well have found one.

Al Kout cost Sheikh Joaan 400,000gns as a yearling but was sold unraced for 11,000gns to Main at the sales in July. He made his debut for new connections last month and came home in front.

He has an opening mark of 80 for tonight, and another victory will make him look even more of a bargain than he does already.

Gordon Lord Byron
8.30 Dundalk

What a wonderful old boy Gordon Lord Byron is. Tonight, the nine-year-old runs in a European handicap for the first time since 2012 (he has contested handicaps in Dubai).

A triple Group 1-winner, Gordon Lord Byron still retains the lofty rating of 109 despite his advancing years and, naturally, shoulders topweight in this race.

Trainer Tom Hogan reports Gordon Lord Byron is “still enjoying life” and another bold performance here would certainly be welcomed.

8.45 Chelmsford

Trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam seems to have found the key to this horse, who has captured his two most recent starts and goes for a hat-trick tonight.

Up another 3lb for his latest win, Loveatfirstsight is partnered again by Daniel Muscutt, who has been in the saddle for the last three races.

The biggest issue for Loveatfirstsite could be the course as he ran his worst race for Chapple-Hyam at this track.
