Tonight's action: three to watch at Wolverhampton including a Royal Ascot winner
This afternoon was a busy one with racing from Aintree, Navan, Wetherby, Sandown and Chepstow, but the last of those finished more than an hour and a half before tonight's fare kicks off so hopefully you are suitably refreshed and ready to go again. Here are three horses to watch at Wolverhampton.
Atty Persse
7.45 Wolverhampton
Atty Persse would be a poignant winner the day after the Kieran Shoemark news broke. Last year the pair enjoyed a Royal Ascot success together in the King George V Stakes, earning a mark of 102.
He has not won since but the last time he dropped to 100 – the mark he races off today – he went very close.
Furthermore, he had a breathing operation before his last start and the blinkers go on for the first time here, so they are certainly trying everything to get him back to winning ways.
Utility
8.15 Wolverhampton
Alan King's Miss Crick was a decent jumping mare who switches to the Flat for the first time and the market has not missed her, but one it has missed at four times the price is David Bridgwater's Utility, who is also seven and makes the same switch.
Utility is by a champion Flat stayer in Yeats and won a bumper by 11 lengths on debut, which earned him an RPR of 121 and an SP of 4-1 for a Grade 2 at Aintree on his next start.
He hasn't quite fulfilled his potential but he's been in good form of late over hurdles and has the assistance of the trainer's daughter in the saddle. Poppy Bridgwater's 5lb claim has proved great value so far and could do so again here.
Man Of Verve
8.45 Wolverhampton
Philip Kirby's Man Of Verve could be the one to back in the getting-out stakes.
He won over course and distance last time out and is up just 3lb for that success. The yard is in flying form with four other winners in the last fortnight and Adam Kirby, who is easily the best practitioner on the all-weather, keeps the ride.
