Tonight's action: three runners to note from Clonmel, Fontwell and Newmarket
Three meetings this evening with the return of racing at Newmarket for the first time since Guineas weekend, a hunter chase fixture at Fontwell and a jumps card at Clonmel. Here we pick out three horses worth noting . . .
Gordon Elliott has his first runners for 13 days following a health scare at his stable, with Percy the first of three hopes on the card.
Providing there is no lasting impact from the trainer's hold-up, the former Ger Lyons-trained four-year-old has good prospects on his fourth start over jumps.
Winner of a maiden hurdle at Downpatrick the time before last, he takes a big drop in class having run in a Grade 2 at Fairyhouse last month.
Wonderful Charm
7.15 Fontwell
The Paul Nicholls-trained ten-year-old might have come unstuck at Cheltenham and Aintree but he should have the necessary class to win Fontwell's feature, the champion open hunter chase.
His main rivals are out of form and he has stacks in hand on ratings.
There is market confidence in him as well, and he should be able to take his unbeaten partnership with top amateur Will Biddick to three.
Exhort
8.35 Newmarket
A wide-open finale at headquarters might end up going to Richard Fahey, who advertised the wellbeing of his stable with a treble at York yesterday.
The Dutch Art filly was not beaten far on her seasonal return at Beverley, the form of which has been boosted with winner Mont Kinabalu going in again next time.
The lightly raced three-year-old had a good record as a juvenile and should come on leaps and bounds for that comeback.
